Once Upon A Breath Of Fresh Air
The Bloomerie is a speculative urban gardening project that imagines a future where communities grow food together through shared hydroponic systems, blending digital tools with physical spaces to foster connection, sustainability, and collective care.
This interdisciplinary group project brought together students from UX-UI design, graphic design, and motion design, united by a shared interest in speculative futures and community engagement. Together, we explored the concept of future community gardens as transformative public spaces—spaces that not only foster sustainability but also encourage participation, learning, and collective imagination.
My role as the motion designer focused on bringing our speculative vision to life through animated storytelling and visual communication. I created motion sequences that helped visualize how a community garden of the future could educate, inspire, and activate public involvement. By imagining gardens as dynamic, evolving environments, our project invited audiences to consider how these spaces might be co-created—shaping cultural, ecological, and social narratives within their communities.
Problem Statement:
“Urban apartment dwellers often face a lack of community connection and limited access to green spaces, which leads to a lack of joy in their everyday life."
Research Question:
“How can we use rooftop gardens in city apartments to foster community engagement, joy and wellbeing for residents?"
Design Solution:
“Reconnecting people with their community through a vertical rooftop garden via our app called Bloomerie."
