Once Upon A Sailor's Tale
A storytelling experience that uses animation to reframe navy tattoos as powerful symbols of identity, history, and lived experience.
A passion project exploring and dismantling the perception of navy tattoos through an educational, interactive experience using storytelling and projection mapping.
This project was born from a personal place—my desire to connect more deeply with my grandfather, who served many years in the navy. Over his time at sea, he collected a series of tattoos, each one rich with personal meaning and tied to his life as a sailor.
Through this work, I wanted to honour those stories and share them with others. By animating and projecting these tattoos in an interactive setting, I invite viewers to look beyond the surface—to engage with the symbolism, traditions, and lived experiences that these markings represent. It's not just about ink on skin, but about the journey, identity, and history carried beneath it.
